Designers awarded $20k for Kut from a Different Cloth Design Contest Fashion Runway Show presented by SCION Saturday November 21^th

LOS ANGELES, CA Saturday November 21, 2009– Over 800 people are expected at the picturesque Vibiana event space in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, November 21^st at the closing fashion runway show and party for Kut from a Different Cloth design competition presented by Scion and Hypebeast, and 3 Steps Media.

Over the course of 3 months, over 14,000 established and novice designers across the US submitted their T-shirt designs for the consideration of web voters on the Hypebeast website. Close to 10 million people voted for their favorite designs, with contestants battling over an online voting system that reduced the contestants down to a group of 50 of the top voted designs. A panel comprised of representatives from Scion, Hypebeast, and 3SA Media then identified the top 4 winners.

The grand prize winner, designer “FJ1974,“ a self-taught graphic artist from New York, walked home with the grand prize of $10,000, and the chance to have their design produced and distributed by 3SA Media.

The second, third and fourth prize winners didn’t go home empty handed. “Lucky” took home the second place prize of $5,000, with designers “Lexcasanova” and “eaa72” winning $2,500.  Most of the designers plan to reinvest their winnings into their design pursuits.

The Kut from a Different Cloth design contest will culminate this Saturday at the historical 35,000 square feet event space, Vibiana, at 210 South Main Street in Los Angeles at a glamorous, fashion forward event. The over 800 guests will kick off the night with a runway show featuring the top four designs of the contest, as well as the spring collections of Insight Clothing, Velvet Leaf, Corpus, Kaylee Tankus, Freemont, and Orthobox. The after-party will continue till the early morning with guest Jason Bently (KCRW, KROQ).

The Kut from a Different Cloth runway show and event will highlight the XXXX Organization, with a portion of the proceeds also going to the organization. For more information about the event, or to RSVP, please contact cc@candiceclarke.com.

I had the pleasure of working with Teen Vogue and O’Neil clothing on the 2nd Annual Generation Next on Friday, September 25, 2009. The competition pairs aspiring young designers with the O’Neil design team to see their design from concept to creation, including marketing, promotion and a fashion show. Generation Next was hosted by Thomas Fiss, featured DJ Hapa providing the beats, and special performance’s by America’s Best Dance Crew’s Fanny Pak. You can watch a video of the show here.
